Sustainability Treet Battery February 25, 2023
Treet Battery proudly introduces its Total Productive Management (TPM) program, an embodiment of our commitment to eliminate waste, breakdowns, and quality rejections. As a pioneering step, we have implemented the key Pillar of Autonomous Maintenance alongside the indispensable CLTI approach – Daily Cleaning, Lubrication, Tightening, and Inspection – bolstered by One Point lessons (OPL) generation. Initiated at the First Assembly and Pasting areas in November 2021, this proactive strategy enhances anomaly detection, fosters ownership, prevents major breakdowns, and ensures peak performance. The 20-minute daily CLTI activity, signaled by a buzzer siren, engages the line crew and plant management, driving improvements in Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Predictive Maintenance, and Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE).
A testament to our unwavering dedication to safety and preparedness, our mock evacuation drill on November 20th, 2021, showcased swift and efficient responses. With the emergency hooter’s resonant call, all site departments orchestrated an 8-minute evacuation to the designated assembly area. The drill’s success extended to a roll call and the rescue of a missing person by our Emergency Response Team. Subsequent fire extinguishing and fire hydrant operation drills enriched our site departments’ familiarity with emergency protocols.
Our commitment to a sustainable future is evident in our resolute efforts to reduce, reuse, and minimize waste. Addressing standard waste issues from the outset, we tackled excessive dross and sludge in grid casting and pasting areas. Focused team formations, comprehensive training, and targeted modifications have driven significant waste reduction. Our achievements speak volumes: a remarkable drop in standard waste to less than 1.43%, yielding annual benefits of 19 million PKR. Innovative initiatives like sludge recycling and furnace pump modifications have slashed year-to-date wastage from 4.88% in 2020-21 to an impressive 2.96% this year, marking a notable 40% year-on-year reduction.
Underscoring our dedication to efficiency, the establishment of a formal Engineering Store in November 2021 has transformed spares management. Developed meticulously over a 3-month period with Site Engineering, TI, and commercial teams, this initiative aligns seamlessly with industrial norms. Our Engineering Store bolsters asset security, streamlines spares consumption evaluation, minimizes downtime, enhances productivity, and ensures timely access to essential materials.
